JAKARTA - The Indonesian Political Indicators survey institute released a poll on the electability of presidential and vice-presidential candidates after the 2024 presidential election debate.

The first debate specifically for presidential candidates was held on December 12, while the second debate specifically for vice presidential candidates was held on December 22.

Executive Director of Indonesian Political Indicators Burhanuddin Muhtadi explained that respondents considered the appearance of the presidential candidate who was the most skilled in the first debate was Anies Baswedan. Meanwhile, the most skilled vice presidential candidate is Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

In detail, as many as 35.5 percent of respondents who watched the debate chose Anies Baswedan as the best-performing presidential candidate. Followed by Prabowo Subianto by 28.9 percent and Ganjar Pranowo with 26.9 percent.

"Prabowo and Ganjar have a narrow, insignificant difference. Even though absolutely, Prabowo is considered a little better performance than Ganjar. However, Anies is considered the winner of the presidential candidate debate," Burhanuddin explained in a virtual survey presentation, Tuesday, December 26.

In the vice presidential debate, 56 percent of respondents who witnessed the debate chose Gibran as the best performer. Followed by Mahfud MD with 24.2 percent gain, and Muhaimin Iskandar 12.3 percent.

"In the context of vice president, Gibran was majority named the winner of the debate. Second place was Mahfud MD. The last rank was Muhaimin Iskandar," he said.

"Our response is fair. Debate presidential candidates, they can think Anies is superior. But the vice presidential debate does not necessarily mean that Muhaimin is the winner. It turns out that the data is like this. So, this shows that people are able to think complexly," continued Burhanuddin.

It is known, the survey was conducted on December 23-24 involving 1,217 respomendants as samples that are Indonesian citizens aged 17 years and over or married or have a telephone.

The survey was conducted by interviewing respondents by telephone. Respondents were selected through the random digit dialing and double sampling method. The survey margin of error is estimated at 2.9 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
