JAKARTA - Vice Presidential Candidate number 3, Mahfud MD assesses diplomacy as one that must be improved to increase exports and reduce trade balance deficits. However, the problem is that there are diplomats who run it.

Mahfud also promised to review the Indonesian diplomat recruitment system.

"Actually, if the diplomacy doesn't work, I think the current diplomat recruitment system should be reviewed," Mahfud said at the Vice Presidential Debat at JCC Jakarta, Friday.

Mahfud then praised the ranks of Indonesian diplomats first. According to him, many diplomats are currently appointed because they are entrusted by political parties (political parties) so that their performance is not maximized.

"In the past, our diplomats were good, now sometimes there is a deposit from the party, if not from the party that has not been entered, it has not been ratified in the DPR, this party has not yet entered. After the task is not clear, he does not understand, does not have an understanding of the basics of diplomacy," he said.

Mahfud said to maximize more than 25 free trade agreements so that exports and investments are maximized, inevitably having to change the diplomat recruitment system.

"If I am given the authority, diplomacy will be reorganized, the recruitment will really meet the requirements," said Mahfud.
