JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that light rain will occur throughout Jakarta today.

BMKG also predicts rain accompanied by lightning or lightning and strong winds in the Seribu Islands, North Jakarta, and West Jakarta in the morning and early morning.

"The temperature is in the range of 23 to 31 degrees Celsius, with humidity of 70 to 90 percent", the quoted as saying on the official website of the BMKG, Friday, February 19.

Based on the calculation of time, in the morning all areas of Jakarta will experience light rain. Except, the Thousand Islands with moderate rain.

In the afternoon, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta will experience light rain. Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands will be cloudy.

At night, all areas will be cloudy. Then, in the early hours of Saturday, February 20, all areas of Jakarta will experience light rain.

In this regard, the Disaster Reaction and Analysis Team at the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN) predicts that today there will be a big flood potential.

"All parties are expected to always raise awareness of the potential for large floods that can occur on February 19-20 in a large area in Jadetabek", said a team member from the LAPAN Center for Atmospheric Science and Technology, Erma Yulihastin.

The potential for flooding comes from the prediction of a disaster early warning system due to extreme weather which monitors extreme rain events or LAPAN's SADEWA (Satellite-based Disaster Early Warning System).

The maximum intensity of the extreme rain is estimated to occur at 05.00 WIB, Friday, February 19, 2021. After that, according to Erma, the intensity of the rain will decrease with time. Furthermore, it rains on a large scale and is persistent or continues until 17.00 WIB in Jakarta and surrounding areas.

Another prediction is that in the afternoon, the rain will also form in the Bogor area and its surroundings and spread north to Jakarta with an increase in the intensity of rain that will occur again before midnight at 23.00 WIB.

Also, according to Erma, rain in Jakarta is expected to continue until 04.00 WIB on February 20, 2021.
