The South Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati Sumsel) has detained the state civil apparatus (ASN) from the South Sumatra Provincial Inspectorate with the initials EK as a suspect in a case of alleged gratification.

Head of the Legal Information Section of the South Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, Vanny Yulia Eka Sari, explained that the South Sumatra Attorney General's Office named one suspect based on the results of the investigation in the case of alleged ratification of the South Sumatra Province ASNinspectorate person according to the direction of the investigation of the Head of the South Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office Number: PRINT-22/L.6/Fd.1/12/2023 dated December 7, 2023.

"The investigative team has collected evidence or evidence, so that based on sufficient preliminary evidence as stipulated in Article 184 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 18.

Investigators then named one person as a suspect with the initials, namely (EK) as the Assistant Inspector of Investigation at the Regional Inspectorate of South Sumatra Province.

Based on the letter of determination of the suspect Number: TAP-20/L.6.5/Fd.1/12/2023 dated December 18, 2023, that the suspect had previously been examined as a witness and based on the results of the examination it was concluded that there was sufficient evidence that he was involved in the alleged gratification.

Investigators today upgraded the status from the original witness to suspect and against suspect EK was detained for the next 20 twenty days at the Class 1 Pakjo Detention Center, Palembang from 18 December 2023 to 06 January 2024.

According to him, the basis for carrying out detention is as stipulated in Article 21 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code in the case of concerns that the suspect will run away, lose evidence, or repeat a criminal act.

"The witnesses who have been examined so far are six people. The modus operandi is that the suspect is on behalf of the prosecutor's office by promising to be able to condition a corruption case that is being handled by the Palembang District Attorney.

Meanwhile, the suspect's lawyer (EK), Rizal Syamsul, said that his client received gratuities from one of the heads of State High Schools in Palembang City.

"We directed the client to temporarily follow the existing procedures and there is no pretrial," he said.
