Israel Claims It Takes Several Months To Destroy Hamas

JAKARTA - Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the destruction of Hamas would take several months.

The statement was made by Gallant during a meeting with United States National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who arrived in Israel on Thursday to hold talks on Israeli warfare in the Gaza Strip.

"We really appreciate Sullivan's personal commitment to the National Security Adviser in efforts to release the hostages and their assistance in diplomatic and security efforts to deliver security equipment to Israel," Gallant told reporters at the end of the meeting, as quoted by Channel 13 Israel as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, December 14.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also met with Sullivan, the prime minister's office said in a statement, without providing further details.

After meeting with the Minister of Defense and Prime Minister Sullivan is scheduled to meet with Israel's war cabinet led by Netanyahu on Thursday, December 14, evening local time.

Sullivan's visit to Israel comes two days after US President Joe Biden said Israel began to lose support from around the world and asked Netanyahu to strengthen and change his government.

Israel's 12 channel previously reported Israel plans to end the ongoing major attack period in the Gaza Strip by the end of January 2024.

Washington had previously asked Israel to end the war in Gaza in early January, but Israel sees this as impossible, the broadcaster said.

The channel said Israel still had a mission to eliminate Hamas, and Israel expected efforts to slow down Hamas military capabilities to last throughout 2024, the media said.
