Prof Indriyanto: Rizieq's Relationship With ISIS Must Be Proven

JAKARTA - University of Indonesia criminal law expert Prof. Indriyanto Seno Adji said Rizieq Shihab's relationship with ISIS must be proven for legal certainty.

"legal proceedings (Justitia) should be followed up to provide legal certainty for anyone involved in this case", said Indriyanto Seno Adji in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, February 17.

The National Police was advised to check Rizieq Shihab regarding a video containing statements about supporting ISIS. Law enforcement can prove what Rizieq's relationship with ISIS is like.

During the disbandment of the Islamic Fighters Front (FPI) some time ago, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD played Rizieq's video during a speech expressing his support for ISIS. The video, which is more than 2 minutes long, was allegedly taken on February 20, 2017.

Although the incident has been going on for a long time, according to Indriyanto, Rizieq's statement can still be prosecuted.

"As long as it does not expire, the Justitia process can still be carried out for statements of support for ISIS that violate the law", he said.

Indriyanto said that perhaps the law enforcers did not process this case, but we're still collecting evidence.

"So, the disclosure of this case is not just a statement from the hospital, but it requires strengthening of evidence", said Indriyanto.

Also, he considered Rizieq's statement of support for ISIS to have a big impact on his followers.

"This statement does have a major impact on FPI's involvement in the terrorism movement, which is proven to be revealing", said Indriyanto.

Rizieq Shihab through his attorney Aziz Yanuar denied supporting ISIS and Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).

According to Aziz, Rizieq has not supported ISIS and JAD since 2014.
