KPU Guarantees Voter Data Is Safe From System Leaks

JAKARTA - Member of the General Election Commission (KPU) Idham Holik stated that the process of printing copies of the 2024 General Elections Fixed Voter List (DPT) for the benefit of voting was not disturbed by the issue of alleged leakage of voter data in the KPU's system.

"For the sake of printing voter data for voting, it is safe and uninterrupted," said Idham as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, December 2.

Regarding the alleged leak of voter data, Idham has not been able to confirm in detail the leak, including whether it is related to the 2024 Simultaneous Election or voter data from the previous election.

"We cannot confirm (related to data leakage). Currently, the KPU information system cybersecurity task force is still working," he added.

He also could not confirm when the search results or digital forensics would be submitted to the public.

"Yes, in principle, (if the search is complete), we will convey it to the public," he said.

Meanwhile, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) has carried out digital forensics as a step to handle the alleged data leak case experienced by the KPU.

BSSN did that to find the cause of the alleged data leak.

"In handling cyber incidents that occurred at the KPU, BSSN is conducting digital analysis and forensics in terms of applications and servers to find out the root couse of the cyber incident that occurred," said BSSN spokesman Ariandi Putra in Jakarta, Friday.

Regarding the follow-up to the handling of the alleged data leak, the KPU will submit it directly as the owner of the electronic system.

The alleged leak of voter data at the KPU occurred after an anonymous hacker named "Jimbo" claimed to have hacked the KPU website and accessed voter data from the site.

The account shares 500 thousand example data in one upload on the BreachForums site. The site is usually used to sell hacked data.
