JAKARTA - The Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror Team of the National Police has arrested one suspect in a criminal act of terrorism in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan.
The spokesman for the National Police's Anti-terror Detachment 88, Kombes Aswin Siregar, said the terrorist suspect arrested in Samarinda was a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network group.
"It is true the arrest of one suspect from the JI group. The suspect with the initials IAZ was arrested by the Densus 88 Anti-terror Team on Friday (1/12) in Samarinda City," Aswin said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, December 2.
The arrest of the suspect is suspected of being involved as one of the JI administrators in Samarinda.
"The person concerned is one of the administrators or treasurer of the JI network," said Aswin.
Aswin has not detailed whether the arrest of the IAZ suspect is related to 19 JI terrorist suspects who were arrested in October 2023.
In October 2023, Densus arrested 19 suspects in the JI group terrorism crime who are members of the organizational structure.
