The Ministry Of Transportation Ensures That Christmas-New Year Transportation Is Safe And Smooth

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud) of the Ministry of Transportation has prepared a number of steps to ensure that the series of air transportation activities for Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 run well, safely, and smoothly.

"We ensure that air transportation facilities and infrastructure are ready to serve the movement of the community during the Christmas and New Year periods this time," said Director General of Air Transportation M. Kristi Endah Murni as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, December 2.

For the number of passengers for the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods, the Directorate General of Hubud predicts that around 4 million people or 19 percent higher than the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year periods as many as 3.4 million people.

It is predicted that there will be the most potential domestic routes on the Jakarta (CGK) route to Denpasar (DPS), Makassar (UPG), Medan (KNO), and Surabaya (SUB). As for the most populous international routes on the Jakarta (CGK)-Singapore (SIN) and Denpasar (DPS)-Singapore (SIN) routes.

In order to monitor the implementation of air transportation for the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods, the Directorate General of Hubud monitors 51 airports for domestic flights (domestics) and 16 airports for overseas flights (international).

"Monitoring at a number of airports is carried out related to safety, security, flight services, increasing the number of passengers, aircraft movements, technical problems, and other factors," said Kristi.

The readiness to organize air transportation for the Christmas and New Year periods has been carried out since early 2023.

"The readiness of the fleet, ground handling equipment, inspection of related facilities/equipment, personnel inspection, and so on has been carried out by flight inspectors both at the head office and at the airport authority office," he said.

Based on the results of a survey by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) of the Ministry of Transportation, the peak of homecoming flow on air transportation is predicted to occur in two periods, namely: the peak of Christmas flow on December 22, 2023 and the peak of New Year's flow on December 29, 2023. Meanwhile, the peak of backflow occurred on January 2, 2024.

Coordination for the readiness to organize air transportation for the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods has also been carried out with relevant stakeholders such as the Air Transport Business Entity (BUAU), Airport Business Entity (BUBU), LPPNPI Corporation (AirNav Indonesia), Geophysics Climatology Meteorology Agency (BMKG), Immigration Office, and others.

"Let's collaborate together to make this Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 flight safe, safe, comfortable, and memorable," said Kristi.
