JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin received an injection of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Sinovac on Wednesday, February 17 morning at around 08.30 a.m. local time at the vice president's office in Jakarta.

"It's true (the vice president was vaccinated) at 08.30 a.m. local time at the official residence", said a spokesman for the vice president, Masduki Baidlowi.

The injection of the COVID-19 vaccine to Vice President Ma'ruf was also attended by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Head of the COVID-19 Task Force Doni Monardo.

As previously reported, the injection of the COVID-19 vaccine to the Vice President Ma'ruf awaited a recommendation from the Presidential Team of Doctors considering the Vice President's health condition who had a history of comorbid disease.

"The vice president is ready (to be vaccinated) at any time, but that will later be determined by the health team and the Presidential Team of Doctors. The Presidential Team of Doctors is already on the move, in terms of what the possibilities are, whether to follow Sinovac or follow other (vaccines)", Masduki said in early February.

The Food and Drug Control Administration (BPOM) has issued a permit for the emergency use of the vaccine made by Sinovac, Coronavac, to groups of people over 60 years of age in Indonesia.

The permit was issued by BPOM on February 5, with two doses of each injection, each dose given at an interval of 28 days.

The emergency use permit, according to the Head of BPOM Penny Lukito, is based on the results of monitoring for phase I and II clinical trial processes in China, which are given to residents over 60 years old.

The results of the clinical trial in China, of the 400 elderly who were given the Coronavac vaccine injection, had an immune level of up to 97.96 percent after the second injection.

The BPOM also considered the results of the Phase III clinical trial in Brazil, which showed that injections of the vaccine to 609 elderly generally had mild side effects, namely pain, nausea, fever, swelling, redness of the skin, and headaches.
