JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) departed from Jakarta to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend a conference of parties within the framework of UN cooperation for climate change (COP28).
The presidential plane carrying President Jokowi and a limited delegation took off from the Halim Perdanakusuma Base Ops, Jakarta, Thursday, at 09.00 WIB, Thursday, November 30.
"The hope of the world for COP28 is very large so that there is a real global action to limit the increase in temperature in the world. Real commitments must be strengthened, especially the commitment of developed countries to climate funding, especially in order to achieve the net zero emission target," said the President shortly before departure.
At the summit, President Jokowi will convey Indonesia's experience in dealing with the impacts of climate change and affirming the importance of global collaboration for climate funding.
"In addition, it is also important to make an inclusive transition to ensure the sustainability of development and community welfare in developing countries," he said.
While in Dubai, President Jokowi will also attend the presidency event on the transformation of the food system, participate in the G77 and China Summits, and hold several bilateral meetings.
The President and his entourage are scheduled to return to the country on Sunday (3/12).
During COP28 which will take place on November 30-12 December 2023, the Indonesian government will explain the progress of climate action and various efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK), Siti Nurbaya Bakar said the minimum expected target of reducing emissions to each country is 43 percent by 2030, 50 percent by 2035, and carbon neutrality by 2050.
"With this condition, Indonesia can actually be committed with an NDC figure of 43.2 percent, and that is also being increased with the second NDC in 2024," said Minister Siti in Dubai, Wednesday (29/11).
Indonesia's target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions with its own capabilities at the Updated Nationally Determined Contribution of 29 percent increased to 31.89 percent at the Enhanced NDC (ENDC), while the target with international support of 41 percent increased to 43.20 percent at the ENDC.
This target is increased in the second NDC which is currently being prepared, including by increasing greenhouse gas absorption from mangroves and seagrass, as well as managing methane emissions in waste management.
The government through the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) will also launch Nusantara Regionally and Locally Determined Contribution (RLDC) documents on COP28.
"I think this is a fairly historic achievement not only for IKN Nusantara, but also for Indonesia that we are in terms of climate change, how we will also overcome problems that may arise together," said OIKN Head Bambang Susantono last week.

Nusantara RLDC is a document that can continue to be updated according to the development of technology and a new approach in the world. RLDC is a version of an NDC at the local level which contains a roadmap for how IKN Nusantara will achieve several targets related to climate change.
In the field of climate change, OIKN set several targets to be achieved, including IKN becoming a city with net zero emissions by 2045.
