KNKT Investigate Explosion Of CNG Gas Cylinder In Sukabumi

SUKABUMI - The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) conducted an investigation regarding the explosion of a compressed natural gas (CNG) tube on Jalan Raya Sukabumi-Bogor, Lodaya Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java which occurred on Monday, (27/11).

"The role of the NTSC is related to the explosion of CNG tubes in Karangtengah Village, Cibadak District in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 62 of 2013 concerning NTSC," said KNKT investigator Zulfikar in Sukabumi as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 29.

According to Zulfikar, his arrival at the scene of the incident that killed two residents was aimed at carrying out factual examinations of the impact of the incident.

This is done to ascertain how powerful the explosion was when the incident occurred. On this first day, his party made measurements to determine the radius of the explosion.

As a result of this measurement, its radius reaches 50 meters, this can be seen from the impact of the explosion where a number of buildings were damaged by the explosion which were located at a radius of 50 meters.

"The truck loaded with gas on Jalan Raya Sukabumi-Bogor is categorized as a very dangerous accident. So we went directly to the location to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and the impact of the incident," he added.

Zulfikar said that his party also checked the condition of the CNG tube made of steel, whether it was still suitable for use or not.

In addition, find out whether before it explodes the condition of the CNG tube whether it leaks or not, because this CNG does not smell different from LPG. Therefore, if there is a leak, it is unknown.

On the other hand, the arrival of the NTSC to the scene or Sukabumi is also to provide education to the public as a mitigation to prevent similar incidents or minimize their impact.
