Stranded On Cilacap Beach, Dead Tutul Shark Buried In Discovery Site

Head of the Cilacap Regional Conservation Resort, Central Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Wahyono said a spotted shark or Rhincodon typus was stranded on Welahan Wetan Beach, Cilacap Regency.

"Based on the reports we received, the leopard shark was found alive by local fishermen this morning, at around 05.00 WIB," Wahyono said in Cilacap, Wednesday, November 29, which was confiscated by Antara.

However, he continued, 30 minutes later the spotted shark, which is included in the list of protected animals, was found dead.

Therefore, his party together with the Mitra Polhut Community, East Nusakambangan (MMP NKT) and other relevant agencies are trying to evacuate the shark carcass.

"We have also reported this to PSDKP (Directorate General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision) because leopard sharks are protected animals based on the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Number 18 of 2013," said Wahyono.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the NKT MMP, Tarmuji, said that until now the process of evacuating the spotted shark carcass is still being carried out.

"The plan is that the carcass of the leopard shark will be buried around the location of the discovery," he said.

On a separate occasion, the Cilacap Nagaraja Turtle Conservation Coordinator, Jumawan, said that based on information from fishermen from Weahan Village, Adipala District, Cilacap, a herd of leopard sharks was seen in the waters south of Adipala in the last four days.

According to him, the flock of leopard sharks is looking for soft shrimp which is currently popping up.

"Maybe because it swam too to the edge, the shark was hit by waves so he couldn't return to the middle of the sea," he said.
