Menkumham Leave The News Of Wamenkumham's Resignation To The President

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly submitted the matter of the resignation of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej (Eddy Hiariej) to President Joko Widodo.

"It's up to the President," said Yasonna when asked about whether or not Wamenkumham Eddy Hiariej should resign from his position because he had been named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on suspicion of bribery and gratification.

This was conveyed by Yasonna to reporters, after attending the delivery of Digital DIPA and the 2024 TKD Allocation List Book at the State Palace, Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 29.

Regarding the viral news and video of Eddy Hiariej from the Commission III meeting of the DPR RI some time ago, Yasonna was of the view that it was necessary to apply the principle of presumption of innocence against his deputy.

"Yes, we are enforcing the law, it's up to the KPK to take the path in accordance with the legal provisions. But I will convey the principle of presumption (not guilty) as well. This is just a legal principle. That's all," he said.

According to Yasonna, so far Eddy's communication with himself has limited to reporting performance only.

Previously, member of Commission III of the DPR Benny K. Harman in his commission meeting with the Minister of Law and Human Rights at the DPR building, Jakarta, Tuesday (21/11), questioned the legal status of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej who participated in a working meeting with Commission III of the DPR.

"In front of us, apart from the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Yasonna Laoly), there is Wamenkumham (Edward Hiariej). Does anyone not know his status? By all parties, his status is known to be a suspect," said Benny asserted.

According to Benny, Edward Hiariej has been named a suspect in the alleged bribery and gratification case by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

In the working meeting, Benny asked for an explanation from Yasonna regarding his deputy's legal status before presenting the meeting with Commission III.

"Otherwise, the person concerned (Edward Hiariej) is not in this room," said Benny.
