President Jokowi Calls Honorary Teachers Who Pass PPPK ASN Will Increase

President Joko Widodo called the PPPK ASN program an effort by the Government to solve the issue of honorary teachers (doc. ANTARA).

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo said there were 544 thousand honorary teachers who had passed the selection to become teachers of state civil servants with work agreements (ASN PPPK) during 2021-2022.

He hopes that this number will increase in the following years.

"Our hope is that in three years there will be approximately 840,000 teachers recruited as PPPK ASN. In 2024 there will reach one million PPPK ASN teachers," said Joko Widodo during the commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) and National Teacher's Day (HGN) 2023.

The PPPK ASN teacher selection program is an effort by the Government to respond to honorary teacher problems so far.

As is known, honorary teachers are always faced with career certainty and welfare problems.

"The government continues to work hard to provide support to teachers, including improving equality," said President Jokowi as quoted by ANTARA.

Government support for education personnel, especially honorary teachers, was welcomed by the Executive Board of PGRI. Moreover, Law Number 20 of 2023 concerning ASN has been passed.

"Student teachers, kindergarten teachers, educators in Indonesia, please give space and opportunity to become PPPK ASN," said Unifah Rosyidi, General Chairperson of the PGRI Executive Board.
