Evidently Foreigners, Bawaslu Asked Tito Karnavian Not To Inaugurate The Elected Regent Sabu Raijua

JAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has asked the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian not to inaugurate the elected regent of Sabu Raijua Regency to become the definitive regent.

Because, Orient has been confirmed as a citizen of the United States. In this regard, Bawaslu sent a letter to Tito containing his views on the Orient Patriot Riwu Kore.

"In its recommendation, Bawaslu asked the Minister of Home Affairs not to appoint Orient as Regent of Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province," said Bawaslu member Ratna Dewi Pettalolo in his statement, Monday, February 15.

Even though the election of the elected candidate pair had been carried out by the KPU, said Ratna, the fact of the citizenship law made the nomination requirements for Orient no longer fulfilled.

In accordance with Article 23 letters a, b, h, or i of Law Number 12 of 2006 concerning Citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia, in conjunction with Article 31 paragraph (1) of Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 2 of 2007, it is stated that if an Indonesian citizen obtains another nationality, the person concerned with itself loses citizenship. So, the status as an Indonesian citizen no longer exists.

So far, the decision to determine the elected candidate pair for the election of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Sabu Raijua Regency in 2020 has been submitted to the Chairman of the Sabu Raijua Regency DPRD which has been forwarded to the Minister of Home Affairs, through the Governor of NTT.

While at this time Orient's appointment as Regent of Sabu Raijua had not yet been carried out, Bawaslu asked the Minister of Home Affairs not to appoint Orient.

"Bawaslu asked the Minister of Home Affairs not to carry out the ratification and appointment of Orent as Regent of Sabu Raijua Regency through the Minister of Home Affairs' Decree on the findings of the dual citizenship law facts," said Ratna.
