JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has explained the role of suspect Jimmy Sutopo in the alleged corruption case in the management of finances and investment funds at PT Asuransi Sosial Angkatan Perjuangan Republik Indonesia (Asabri).

He is said to have collaborated with Benny Tjokrosaputro in buying and selling shares.

"BT (Benny Tjokro) has agreed together with the suspect JS (Jimmy Sutopo) to arrange the sale and purchase or trading of shares belonging to the suspect BT to PT Asabri Persero", said Head of the AGO's Legal Information Center, Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak to reporters, Monday, February 15th.

The cooperation between the two was established from 2013 to 2019. The mode used is by opening an account and a nominee account at a previously appointed securities company.

"Suspect JS carried out instructions from suspect BT for price-fixing and share buying and selling transactions in customer fund accounts or RDN nominees, both for direct transactions and mutual funds purchased by PT Asabri as a result of price manipulation", he explained.

Then, said Leonard, the suspect Jimmy Sutopo collected the proceeds of the crime through an account in the names of some staff belonging to Benny Tjokro. Furthermore, the proceeds of the crime were used for his personal gain.

"The suspect carried out transactions in and out of funds for personal gain by hiding or disguising the origin of the assets and spending money resulting from criminal acts of corruption, as well as other acts included in the TPPU scheme (Money laundry)", he said.

Previously, Jimmy Sutopo (JS) as the Director of PT Jakarta Issuer Investor Relation was named a suspect in the alleged corruption case of financial management and investment funds at PT Asuransi Sosial Angkatan Angkatan Republik Indonesia (Asabri).

"The team of investigators concluded that witness JS has become a suspect in this case", said Leonard.

Jimmy Sutopo is a private party involved in criminal acts of corruption. The determination of the suspect against him was based on order number print 09/f.2/fd.2/02/2021 dated February 15, 2021.
