Polda Metro Jaya Is Considered Convoluted In Handling The Ex-Minister Of Agriculture SYL's Extortion Case

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) assesses that Polda Metro Jaya has been slow to handle allegations of extortion against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo by the KPK leadership. In fact, examination of witnesses and attempts to confiscate evidence have been carried out.

"ICW feels that the Polda Metro Jaya is getting more and more complicated in handling this case. In fact, a lot of evidence has been collected, forced efforts such as searches and confiscation have also been carried out, even dozens of witnesses and several experts have also been questioned by investigators," said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana in a written statement quoted on Saturday, November 18.

Kurnia assessed that the Metro Police should be able to immediately move to find the extortion suspect. "It should no longer be difficult," said the anti-corruption activist.

Not only that, Kurnia also highlighted the coordination steps between the police and the KPK. This effort is actually considered to cause a conflict of interest considering that the alleged perpetrator is the head of the anti-corruption commission.

It is known that Polda Metro Jaya visited the KPK's Red and White Building on Friday, November 17 yesterday. This step was taken to discuss and exchange information regarding the alleged extortion that recently dragged the name of KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri.

"Based on the laws and regulations, there is no legal obligation for the police to consult with the KPK, especially in this case the alleged perpetrator is the head of the anti-corruption agency," he said.

As previously reported, Polda Metro Jaya has examined more than 90 witnesses in this alleged extortion. They include Syahrul Yasin Limpo, former aide to Firli Bahuri, Kevin Egananta. Then there is the Semarang Police Chief Kombes Pol Irwan Anwar, Director of Dumas KPK Tomi Murtomo, and two former KPK leaders Saut Situmorang and M Jasin.

Then Firli has also been examined twice. The second examination was carried out on Thursday, November 16 yesterday.

From the examination, Firli is said to have received 15 additional questions from investigators. This step was taken to investigate the alleged extortion of Syahrul.
