Mahfud MD Affirms Anwar Usman Cannot Participate In The 2024 Presidential Election Dispute Session

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that judges of the Constitutional Court (MK) Anwar Usman should not be involved in hearing the 2024 Presidential Election dispute (Pilpres).

"To hear the dispute over the presidential election, it is not allowed because there is already a decision by the Constitutional Court Honorary Council, he (Anwar Usaman) cannot try all disputes over the election results or at all levels," said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md in Padang, West Sumatra, Thursday. Mahfud Md after giving a public lecture at Andalas University with the theme "Realizing a democratic and dignified 2024 election".

However, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court emphasized the law and anyone else could not ask let alone force the Constitutional Court judge Anwar Usman to resign as a constitutional judge. "Whether it is Pak Anwar's decision, and cannot be forced by law or us," he said.

Regarding general education, he said democracy (people's sovereignty) would only run well if it was accompanied by a notification (legal sovereignty).

Unlawful democracy will go wild. Because, everyone can feel right on their own, and make separate decisions that can harm the community. On the other hand, if the nomocracy is not supported by a democratic process, state administrators can also act arbitrarily.

"The law has become an elitist. Therefore, since the beginning the founder of the state said that Indonesia is a Unitary State in the form of a republic, sovereignty is in the hands of the people and is carried out under the Basic Law," he said.

Additional information, the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia has determined three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates. The three are Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.

The determination was made after the KPU verified the documents and saw the results of the medical tests of the two partners.
