Indonesian BEM Solidarity Alliance Students Hold Action Demanding KPK Investigate Allegations Of Corruption In North Maluku

JAKARTA - Hundreds of students from the Indonesian BEM Solidarity Alliance held a demonstration in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building.

They demanded this anti-corruption agency to thoroughly investigate allegations of corruption in the practice of buying and selling positions involving several officials in North Maluku Province.

In their oration, they stated a number of demands, including the examination of Brother Miftah Bay, Head of the North Maluku Civil Service Agency, regarding the case of buying and selling positions allegedly carried out with the Governor of North Maluku.

Furthermore, they urged the investigation and settlement of the convict Imran Yakub case related to the 2019 Nauwtika ship incident.

Furthermore, they revealed that Imran Yakub and Miftah Bay were suspected of putting pressure on the Governor of North Maluku so that Imran Yakub was appointed Head of the North Maluku Education Office.

The students also emphasized the need to conduct an audit of the flow of funds to the account of the Governor of North Maluku regarding the bribery case of buying and selling positions.

The Coordinator of the Indonesian BEM Solidarity Center, Wahyu Alam Putra, stated that they plan to hold an action again in state institutions, including the Attorney General's Office, on a larger scale and involve the entire national region, even to the President's level, if their demands are not followed up immediately.

"Without our response and fulfillment of our demands, we will hold even greater action. Currently, there are 200 students participating from 50 campuses throughout Jabodetabek," Wahyu told reporters on Friday, November 10.

Wahyu hopes that the KPK will immediately follow up on corruption cases that are the focus of their demands.

"This case has a serious impact on the state and is against moral values. We hope that the KPK can act in accordance with its duties because this case is detrimental to the state," he said.

In its action, in addition to burning tires as a form of protest, representatives from the Indonesian BEM Solidarity Alliance also submitted documents related to a series of cases in North Maluku Province to KPK Public Relations employees.
