BANDUNG - Bandung City Police uncovered illegal drug sales for abortion practices by securing two suspects.
Bandung Police Chief Kombes Kusworo Wibowo said the disclosure of the case was the result of cyber patrols by his staff which indicated the rampant illicit trafficking of drugs used to abort the womb.
"We uncovered an illegal abortion case committed by someone who is not a doctor, but on behalf of himself as a doctor and selling illegal drugs that should be traded based on a doctor's prescription," said Kusworo as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 6.
Kusworo explained that his party first arrested SM, who acted as a drug dealer, on his Facebook account. Apart from being a seller, the suspect SM admitted to participating in guiding the victims to use the drug.
"Well, it was revealed on Monday (23/10) where the suspect's initials SM opened Facebook and then offered consultation services for abortion, so many are members of the group," he said.
He explained the modus operandi of the suspect SM in carrying out the practice of abortion as if the health worker had a permit.
Kusworo said that after a deeper investigation was carried out, his party managed to secure Indonesia as a drug dealer for pregnancy.
"According to the suspect's statement, this practice has been around since 2021 and we have checked that there are 20 victims on our cellphones," he said.
For the facilities used by the suspect SM in conducting abortion, it is a hard drug type "CM" tablet 200 Mcg which is sold at a price of IDR 1.5 million per set or as many as 10 pills to the victims.
"So for this drug (CM), the SM suspect bought 12 pieces of RI at a price of Rp. 2.5 million, but the SM suspect sold one type of Rp. 1.5 million to the victims," he said.
Kusworo said the hard drugs sold by the suspect were a category that could not be sold freely to the public and the acquisition could only be done using a doctor's prescription.
"That this drug is only for acute ulcer diseases or to issue if there is a network left behind after giving birth," said Kusworo.
The suspects face a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 12 years in prison under Article 435 and Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health.
