SEMARANG - The body of a woman suspected of being a murder victim was found in a cupboard in one of the rooms of the Royal Phoenix Hotel, on Jalan Singosari, Semarang City.

Central Semarang police chief Kompol Untung Kistopo said the body of the victim, known as Melyanti (24), was first discovered by a hotel clerk who was cleaning the room.

"The hotel clerk was cleaning the room, because it was due for 'check out'," he said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 11.

When opening the cupboard, he said, the hotel clerk found the victim's body in a sitting condition with a bag pressed against it.

This finding was reported to the hotel owner until it was forwarded to the local police.

The temporary investigation, according to him, was that the victim was known to have "checked in" with a man on February 2, 2021.

Kompol Untung explained that the victim and her male friend booked a room using an application.

The police are still hunting down the victim's male friend who left the hotel on Thursday at around 04.49 WIB.

From the witness' testimony, he continued, the friend of the victim, known as Dani, had asked a hotel employee to take him to the shadow terminal in Sukun, Banyumanik, Semarang City.

According to Kompol Untung, the victim's male friend admitted that he was going back to Wonosobo.
