PeKANBARU - The police are following up on complaints related to the alleged existence of false Imam Mahdi in Kampar Regency which the public complained about during Friday's Curhat (stealt) activity.

"The Kampar Resort Police have followed up," said Director of General Crimes at the Riau Police, Kombes Asep Darmawan, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 30.

In addition, he continued, the intelligence unit also conducted an investigation to trace the truth of this case.

"I'll check the progress later at the Kampar Police," he added.

It is known that during the Friday Curhat (20/10) event, the public asked the police to investigate religious sects that were suspected of being deviant and claiming to be Imam Mahdi. Previously, the Riau Police had also revealed a similar case.

After listening to public complaints, Riau Police Chief Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal asked Kampar Police Chief to trace the information.

"Give us information if there is still a flow claiming to be Mahdi's imam again, we will follow up on this," said Iqbal.

Previously, in 2022, the Riau Police arrested a man with the initials WAM (32) who claimed to be Imam Mahdi.

The perpetrator is suspected of committing a number of criminal acts such as blasphemy, spreading fake news, protecting children from narcotics abuse and illegal drugs.

The arrest of the WAM began with a report from his wife who had not been supported for three years.

The perpetrator was secured in a private school by the Ditreskrimum of the Riau Police in the Tiga Juhar area, North Sumatra which borders Aceh.
