Fire At Sarimukti TPA Already Extinguished, West Java Provincial Government Will Evaluate Waste Emergency Status In Greater Bandung

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of West Java (Jabar) will evaluate the status of a waste emergency in the Greater Bandung area. The status expires on Wednesday, October 25.

Acting Governor of West Java Beyxi Machmudin said a number of aspects would be considered considering the talent Sarimukti TPA since August 4, 2023 has been successfully extinguished.

"On October 25, 2023, I ask for an evaluation, because according to information that it has been extinguished, it can be shifted (the disposal area). So the emergency period is whether it needs to be extended or indeed well managed," said Bey in Soreang, Bandung Regency, Monday, October 23, confiscated by Antara.

Bey emphasized that the status of the Greater Bandung waste emergency is not a priority, but a reduction in waste from upstream which must be the focus of improvement.

"Because the important thing I have told the Head of the Environment Agency, don't just ask the district government or city government in Greater Bandung to reduce the waste risk, but also think about how to reduce waste in districts/cities," he said.

Not without reason, he said, currently the accumulation of waste, including in the city of Bandung, still often occurs at Temporary Disposal Sites (TPS). Therefore, he asked all regional leaders in Greater Bandung to immediately find solutions to reduce the waste.

"Don't let the waste community not be wasted. In Bandung, for example, now there are still a lot of them playing around in Bandung. Try the city of Bandung, there are still a lot of polling stations that are abundant, I don't want to be like that," said Bey.

Therefore, Bey asked various regions in the Greater Bandung area to imitate ways from other regions that managed to manage their waste, such as Banyumas Regency in Central Java.

"I mentioned Banyumas Regency because it was successful, and don't be ashamed to imitate, just replicate it. The emergency or non-emergency problem, the important thing is how to overcome sustainability. In essence, what steps must be taken from upstream," he said.
