The Minister Of Communication And Information Calls There Has Been An Adu Debate On Social Media Ahead Of The 2024 General Election

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said that social media in Indonesia was observed to be still cool from hoaxes ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"It's still cool, just remember, it's not too hot," said Budi in Jakarta, Monday, October 23, quoted by Antara.

However, Budi did not deny that there had been a debate or debate regarding supporters between the 2024 election contestants in the digital space. He also made an analogy of this condition as a warming situation.

According to him, the debate between supporters of the election contestants cannot be avoided considering that the time for the five-year democratic party is getting closer.

He said that this condition was natural and was a form of freedom of expression in public spaces supported by Indonesia as a country with a form of democratic government.

"Yes, now I'm surprised (the digital space), if it's cold, it's impossible, it's also called an election," he said.

Reflecting on this phenomenon, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics reminded the public to keep the digital space safe and comfortable ahead of the 2024 General Election.

Despite expressing opinions, it is better if the opinions given are in accordance with facts and do not contain hoaxes, SARA, or hate speech.

Budi firmly said the Ministry of Communication and Informatics would firmly decide and remove access to content that could divide the nation.

"Anyway, we will take down the type of hoax, hate speech, SARA, we break up. If it's just a different opinion, it's okay," said Budi.

Finally, he advised that the public should be able to support the 2024 Peace Election campaign carried by the Government so that conditions in the digital space become productive.

Thus, more and more people are willing to get involved in the election and support the creation of healthy political competitions.

"We, the Ministry of Communication and Information, appeal to the public to be able to use their social media wisely, spread the spirit of unity, and maintain the right political climate so that the country remains cool, remains peaceful," he said.
