Refusing To Be Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison, Lukas Enembe Files An Appeal

The inactive governor of Papua stated that he rejected the decision of the panel of judges at the Corruption Court (Tipikor) of the Central Jakarta District Court on bribery and gratification cases, and would file an appeal legal action.

"He stated that he rejected the judge's decision," said Petrus Bala Pattyona, a lawyer for Lukas Enembe in a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 19.

During the trial, Chief Justice Rianto Adam Pontoh explained that the sentence of eight years in prison handed down to Lukas, the defendant and the public prosecutor (JPU) had the same right to state their position.

"Do you accept the verdict or reject the decision by filing an appeal or you think about it for seven days. That's your right," said Rianto.

The defendant's legal adviser immediately stated that he refused, while the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor stated that he had thought about it first for seven days.

Met after the trial, Petrus admitted that he had explained all the points of the verdict to Lukas. Hearing that, Lukas firmly said he refused.

"That's why I quote straight that he declared rejecting the verdict. That means, we will appeal within seven days. Today, Thursday, maybe tomorrow he will have to sign a power of attorney for us to declare an appeal," added Petrus.

The Central Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Lukas Enembe to eight years in prison and a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to four months in prison.

Lukas Enembe was also sentenced to pay compensation in the amount of Rp. 19,690,793,900 at the latest within one month after the decision has permanent legal force or inkrah.

"If you don't pay, your property will be confiscated and auctioned off by the prosecutor to cover the replacement money. With the provision that if the convict does not have sufficient property, he will be sentenced to imprisonment for two years," continued Rianto.

In addition, Lukas Enembe was sentenced to an additional sentence in the form of revocation of the right to be elected in public office for five years after he finished serving his main sentence.
