Mahfud MD Asks People Not To Golput In The 2024 Election

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD appealed to people who have met the requirements as prospective voters to be able to exercise their voting rights in the 2024 General Election, so that no one gets involved.

"It is our agenda to increase public participation as voters, because the large participation of voters and small numbers of goals will certainly affect sociological and political legitimacy," MahfudMD said when delivering material online in the national dialogue "The 2024 General Election Success towards Advanced Indonesia" quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 17.

Mahfud said the higher voter participation in an election and regional elections, the more it produces representatives and governments that represent all levels and aspirations of society.

Formally, he continued, the level of voter participation does not seem to affect the legality of institutions formed through elections and regional elections.

However, the large amount of voter participation greatly affects the legitimacy or acceptance and recognition of the authority given by the community to leaders.

"I can say maybe elections are legally legal, but legally flawed. Therefore, it is important for the people to exercise their voting rights during the 2024 election," he explained.

Simultaneous Elections and Regional Head Elections in 2024 require the participation of the community to make the once-in-a-five-year democratic party an instrument in achieving advanced Indonesia.

Through the use of voting rights, Mahfud said that people's and government representative institutions in Indonesia can be occupied by competent people and according to the expectations of the people.

"The election is a momentum for state administration to renew knitted and national ties, state, carried out by a legitimate government and has legitimacy in order to continue development for the progress of the nation," he said.

Based on data from the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia, the Permanent Voter List (DPT) of the 2024 General Elections reached 204,807,222 people spread across 38 provinces in Indonesia, including Indonesian citizens abroad.

The number of domestic voters is 203,056,748 people, consisting of 101,467,243 men and 101,589,505 women.

While the rest, as many as 1,750,474 are Indonesian citizens who vote in 128 representative countries, with the number of PPLN, KSK, and Pos as many as 3,059. Of these, 751,260 of them are men and 999,214 women.
