BATAM - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Hang Nadim Batam said that visibility due to smog sent from the Sumatra area in Batam has gradually returned to normal.

BMKG forecaster Hang Nadim Batam Fitri Annisa said, based on the results of satellite imagery, the smog that covered Batam's sky in the past two days was not visible.

"Today, around the Batam area there is no visible smog. The visibility in the aviation sector has also returned to normal numbers, which is 10 kilometers," he said when contacted in Batam, Riau Islands, Monday, October 9.

Previously, he said, visibility in Batam City had decreased to 4 km due to smog sent from Riau, South Sumatra and Jambi areas.

The Batam City Environment Agency also mentioned that air quality was categorized as unhealthy, with the standard index value of air pollution (ISPU) at 111.

Meanwhile, Batam International Airport President Director Pikri Ilham Kurnitiansyah said there were no problems with flights during the smog in Batam.

"There is no problem, it is still safe. Two days ago it was the same, even though there was a smog, but there was no problem with the flight," he said.
