Controlled Smoke Fog, Water Bombing Helicopter In Riau Moved To Other Regions

PeKANBARU - The water bombing helicopter, which was previously in Riau, has now been sent to Jambi and South Sumatra Provinces to help extinguish forest and land fires (karhutla) in the region.

"The handling of forest and land fires in Riau Province can still be controlled quite well. The smoke fog that envelopes Riau, especially in Pekanbaru City, actually comes from other areas," said Riau Governor Syamsuar in Pekanbaru, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, October 7.

Governor Syamsuar said that there was no extraordinary fire, only the hotspots or smog came from other areas and Pekanbaru City had started to brighten and the smog began to decrease.

The cause of the smog sent from other provinces has decreased, he said, because of the rain that occurred in several areas in Riau, including Pekanbaru City.

"Therefore, all levels of society should help Jambi and South Sumatra Provinces control forest and land fires so that more severe smog does not appear," he said.

Even though the forest and land fires in Riau are under control, Syamsuar still urges the public not to clear land by burning.

"If you see a forest and land fires, the public should immediately report to the officers so that forest and land fires can be extinguished immediately and not spread until they cause smog," he said.
