SUKABUMI - The Environment Agency (DLH) of Sukabumi Regency, West Java temporarily closed all activities of a green stone processing and cutting plant in Bojongraharja Village, Sukabumi Regency for allegedly damaging the environment and polluting the Cibojong River.

"The temporary closure of the factory in Cikembar District, after we gave several warnings and received reports from residents who protested because the factory dumped waste from green rock processing into the river which was caused by a waste reservoir not functioning," said Head of Partnership and Environmental Legal Management of the Sukabumi Regency DLH Susanty, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 6.

According to Susanty, decisive steps had to be given to this green stone entrepreneur, because before going to the processing site, his party together with elements of the Cikembar Forkopimcam had traced the flow of the Cibojong River which was polluted by waste.

In fact, rivers whose water is usually used by residents for household activities can no longer be used because they have been polluted by chemicals used to process green stones.

After tracing the river flow, his party then inspected the factory and found that there was a violation committed by the entrepreneur, namely disposing of waste into the river because the green stone waste reservoir was not functioning.

At the location, DLH then gave a letter regarding the temporary closure of the factory and was prohibited from carrying out various activities until the waste reservoir was repaired or rebuilt.

"Strict action must be taken, the employer must comply with the applicable rules and laws, lest business activists damage the environment," he added.

On the other hand, in the Cikembar sub-district itself, there are at least 30 companies engaged in the processing of green stones. This business supports the community's economy.

However, in addition to prioritizing the economy, entrepreneurs must also prioritize environmental conditions, because the impact of environmental damage can be felt by various parties.
