Judge: Unproven Inheritance, Pinangki Hide Corruption Proceeds

JAKARTA - The panel of judges considered the statement by Attorney Pinangki Sirna Malasari regarding a large amount of foreign currency that had been called the legacy of her ex-husband was a lie.

Pinangki considered this reason as a way to cover up the proceeds of corruption.

"The source of cash in the form of US dollars was exchanged into rupiah currency at the money changer and then the money was transferred and spent by the defendant, who according to the defendant came from deposits from the husband of the first defendant that could not prove at trial", said the panel of judges in a trial at the Corruption Court, Jakarta, Monday, February 8.

If indeed the money was a legacy from her ex-husband, Pinangki would still be found guilty. Because Pinangki did not report the money in the State Officials' Wealth Report (LHKPN) in 2018.

"In this case, it is evident that the defendant deliberately concealed the origin of assets originating from corruption", he said.

Previously, the panel of judges said that in this case the total money laundering crime (TPPU) committed by Pinangki was valued at IDR 5.2 billion.

"The total amount transferred, transferred is spent in total USD 375,279 or the equivalent of IDR 5,253,905,036 as previously described came from the criminal act of receiving USD 500 thousand in cash, the total amount of USD 1 million from Djoko Tjandra given through Andi Irfan Jaya so that the PK decision against Djoko Tjandra cannot be executed so does not need to get a criminal penalty", he said

The money laundering crimes committed by Pinangki in the case of gratification in the MA fatwa were, among others:

1. Purchase of 1 unit of BMW X5 car valued at IDR 1.753 billion was purchased in cash but several stages

2. Payment for the rental of Trump International Hotel Apartments in the United States on December 3, amounting to IDR 72 million

3. Payment of a beauty doctor in the United States named doctor Adam R Kohler, amounting to IDR 139,943 million

4. Payment of a home care doctor on behalf of Dr. Olivia Santoso for health and beauty care and a rapid test of IDR 166,780 million.

5. Credit card payments at various banks, IDR 437 million, IDR 185 million, IDR 483.5 million, IDR 1.8 billion

6. The rental payment for The Pakubuwono Signature apartment from February 2020-February 2021 is USD 68,900 or the equivalent of IDR 940.2 million.

7. Darmawangsa Essence Apartment rental payments worth USD 38,400 or the equivalent of IDR 525.2 million.
