JAKARTA - The Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 in Bekasi Regency, West Java, has started today to open a special hotel for residents with the status of people without symptoms (OTG) COVID-19 who were affected by flooding in that area.

As reported by Antara, Monday, February 8, Deputy Chairperson of the Bekasi Regency COVID-19 Task Force Commissioner Hendra Gunawan said the government had prepared 100 bedrooms for residents exposed to the coronavirus without symptoms as well as being affected by flooding in his residence.

"Starting at 10.00 WIB, we are preparing the Ibis Hotel for residents exposed to COVID-19 and also flood victims", he said in Cikarang.

He has coordinated with the Bekasi District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to immediately identify communities that fall into these criteria.

"And it must be immediately evacuated to a place that has been prepared by the government at the Ibis Cikarang Hotel", he said.

The Bekasi Metropolitan Police Chief asked all his staff to immediately make an inventory and evacuate residents with the categories in question.

"We ask the police chiefs and their ranks to immediately evacuate the residents affected by the flood who have the COVID-19 OTG status", he said.

Meanwhile, the evacuation process involved the Bekasi District Health Office and the nearest community health center from the evacuation site.

"For technical evacuation such as vehicles to be used, we have coordinated with the Health Office and Public Health Center (Puskesmas). During the evacuation process, the medical team will be assisted by volunteers from BPBD. The peak of this rainy season is our concern in efforts to deal with COVID-19", he said.

BPBD Bekasi Regency said that heavy rain accompanied by strong winds occurred until yesterday caused at least 12 sub-districts to be flooded with water levels between 30-150 centimeters.

"Besides flooding, the tornado also swept away residential areas in Tamansari Village, Setu District", said Head of BPBD Bekasi Regency Henri Lincoln.

There are 12 flood-affected areas, he said, are Cibitung, North Tambun, South Tambun, North Cikarang, Cabangbungin, Pebayuran, Sukawangi, Sukakarya, East Cikarang, Sukatani, Babelan and Muaragembong Districts. Meanwhile, one sub-district, Setu District, was hit by a tornado.

Of the total 13 sub-districts affected by the flood and tornado, there are at least 92 puddles in 27 villages and sub-districts.

"13,021 families were victims of floods and tornadoes. 38 houses were severely damaged and 35 houses were slightly damaged", said Henri.
