Bandung - At the XXV Congress of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) in 2023, Hendry Ch Bangun was elected as the General Chair of PWI for the period 2023-2028. The election took place at the Hotel City of Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, September 27 in the morning.

The election of the Head of PWI involved 3 candidates, namely Atal Sembiring Depari (pertahana), Hendry CH Bangun, and Zulmansyah Sekedang (Chairman of PWI Riau). In the first round, Atal S Depari won 40 votes, while Hendry got 39 votes, and Zulmansyah 9 votes.

Hendry Ch Bangun managed to win the election after the second round by winning 47 votes, ahead of the incumbent Atal Sembiring Depari who only got 41 votes.

In his remarks, Hendry, who was the Deputy Chair of the Press Council for the 2019-2022 period, promised to embrace the regional PWI management to jointly build the oldest journalist organization in Indonesia. This is also one of the 10 visions and missions he conveyed.

After being elected, in his speech, Hendry Ch Bangun, who was the Deputy Chair of the Press Council for the 2019-2022 period, thanked PWI journalists throughout Indonesia. He described this election as a big challenge to realize PWI's vision and mission in the future.

Hendry also talked about his plan to improve education and competence in PWI and invited all PWI members to work together to build this organization even better.

"Of course I have the ambition to make this PWI organization the largest, oldest, and most intellectual organization. To make the most use of it so that we can return to glory as happened in the past," he added.

There are 38 provinces in Indonesia and all of them have PWI. "We will carry out various activities, especially in the field of education," said Hendry Ch Bangun.

After the election, the Chairman of the PWI was also elected by the Chairman of the Honorary Council (DK) who was entrusted to Sasongko Tedjo to replace Ilham Bintang. Hendry Ch Bangun promised that in the next one month the new management composition of the Central PWI would be formed.
