Police Name Carnival Accident Suspect In Malang Who Killed One Person

Malang Police have named one suspect with the initials U, 63 years old as a suspect in an accident that caused one person to die in a carnival activity in Pakis District, Malang Regency, East Java. Head of Public Relations of Malang Police, Iptu Ahmad Taufik, said that the suspect is currently still undergoing investigation at the Malang Police due to the incident which also caused six other victims to suffer injuries. "The driver has been named a suspect," said Taufik, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 25.

Taufik explained, until now the Malang Police have examined three witnesses, namely two carnival participants and the owner of the vehicle. In addition, an intensive inspection was carried out on the driver. According to him, the pickup vehicle driven by suspect U was carrying consumption for carnival activities held in Kedungrejo Village, Pakis District, was also carried out. When the road decreased, the driver was unable to control the vehicle. "Indeed, the vehicle used to transport consumption of carnival activities. The majority of victims are carnival participants," he said.

The police have also conducted urine tests on the driver to determine whether the suspect was not affected by alcohol while driving. Currently, his party is still waiting for the results of the urine test. "For the results, they are still waiting. But based on witness testimony, they are not affected by alcohol," he said.

The suspect was charged with Article 310 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation, with a maximum prison sentence of five years. On Sunday (24/9) at approximately 22.00 WIB, there was an accident that caused one person to die, named Renita Sintia Sari, aged 14 years, a resident of Kedungrejo Village, Pakis District. In addition, six other victims suffered injuries, namely Rilla Dwi(24), Andry Hermawan (22), Fita Sri (31), Aziel Saputra (5), Fatma Hikmawati (23) and Sarina Aurelia (4). Two of the six victims were toddlers. The incident began when the pickup vehicle driven by U (63), a resident of Kedungrejo Village, Pakis District, passed a downhill while following the carnival parade series.

At the scene of the incident, the vehicle lost control and then hit seven people who were walking. There was a collision of the back on a number of pedestrians. The carnival parade in Kedungrejo Village began at 19.00 WIB in a series of Indonesian independence warnings. The accident occurred at around 22.00 WIB, and then the carnival was stopped by the organizing committee.
