JAKARTA - Two tigers belonging to Sinka Zoo in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan have escaped and roam in the areas of Pasir Panjang, Lirang and Bokmakong, Sedau District.

"We have contacted the Sinka Zoo regarding the release of the two tigers and it is true that two tigers were released," said Head of Singkawang Region III Conservation Section, Suparto, as quoted by Antara, Friday, February 5.

His side immediately contacted the Pontianak BKSDA to coordinate regarding this incident, as well as to give an appeal to the surrounding community to be vigilant and careful.

Regarding chronology, Suparto has not been able to provide any information. "We have asked Sinka Zoo to close temporarily," he said.

The search effort is still having problems. Even if it is done at night, the risk is much higher because these animals are more aggressive.

It advised search officials to stop the search at night. "We recommend monitoring its movements only, because it is very dangerous for officers conducting searches," he said.

In the upcoming search process, his party will immediately coordinate with the TNI and Polri to help find the tiger so that it can be quickly found and handled.

Sinka Zoo Singkawang when confirmed confirmed the incident. According to Elka Surya, one of the zoo administrators, the two tigers were released due to natural factors. Heavy rain that flushed for several days caused landslides in the Sinka Zoo area of Singkawang.

"The rain that has flushed for the last few days has caused landslides near the tiger enclosure. The landslide eventually caused a big hole in the tiger cage and finally two tigers fled," said Elka.

According to him, the handler had tried to prevent it, but the tiger was attacked and killed.

"Currently we have been assisted by the police and TNI in the field. Hopefully the two tigers can be caught," said Elka.

He added that the released tigers were still being monitored and were still in the Sinka Zoo area of Singkawang.
