JAKARTA - The government will hold a meeting with regional leaders to discuss the continuation of the Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali. The plan, PPKM will be carried out on a micro scale.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy (Menko Ekonomi) Airlangga Hartarto said the results of the meeting would be reported to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to make further decisions regarding the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The government will have a meeting with regional leaders tonight and it is hoped that this micro-scale activity can be operationalized soon," he said, in a video conference in Jakarta, Friday, February 5.

The chairman of KPC-PEN claimed that positive cases of COVID-19 in several areas such as Jakarta, Central Java had decreased in the past week thanks to the implementation of PPKM. However, Jokowi requested that PPKM be carried out at a micro scale. This means that the implementation is lowered to a lower level.

"We have seen that several regions have experienced a decline in the past week. But the President asked for a more micro scale, the level is not at the regency and city level, but to the sub-district, village head, village, RT and RW," he said.

According to Airlangga, in principle, President Joko Widodo's direction is how activities to handle COVID-19 can run effectively and the rate of cases can decrease. So that it can encourage economic growth to be positive in the first quarter of 2021.

On the other hand, he said, the government must also pay attention to the balance between brake and gas. The goal is to continue to accelerate economic growth.

"That is a direction from the President that needs to be translated into continuation of the handling of COVID-19," he said.
