Medan Methamphetamine Dealer Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court (PN), North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant Susilawati alias Dedek to seven years in prison in the case of a narcotics courier of 1.12 grams of methamphetamine.

"Trialed and sentenced the defendant Susilawati alias Dedek to seven years in prison, a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said presiding judge M. Nazir in a verdict at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 14.

The panel of judges in the verdict stated that the facts of the trial of the defendant Susilawati violated Article 114 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

Namely, without rights or against the law offering to sell, sell, buy, accept, become intermediaries in buying and selling, exchanging and handing over narcotics class I in the form of non-plant weighing 1.12 grams.

"The aggravating thing was that the defendant's actions did not support the government's program in eradicating narcotics, and disturbing the community, as well as mitigating the regret for his actions," he said.

After reading the verdict, the panel of judges gave time to the defendant and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Belawan District Attorney Bella Azigna Purnama to accept or appeal the decision.

This decision is lighter than the demands of the Prosecutor's Office of Belawan who demanded nine years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to one year in prison.
