BNPB Performs TMC Reduce Air Pollution During The ASEAN Summit (ANTARA)

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) conducts weather modification technology (TMC) to reduce air pollution during the ASEAN Summit on September 5, 2023.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said his party deployed two fixed-wing aircraft to carry out artificial evaluations with new techniques, namely water-spray in Jakarta's sky.

"Two aircraft are operated to create an evacuation so that they are expected to "cut off" air pollution. In addition to reducing air pollution in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas, the operation of this new TMC technique aims to support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit," said Abdul.

Abdul explained that during the ASEAN Summit, a total of 18 flight terms were carried out by the two aircraft with a total water-spray of 22,500 liters in the Jakarta sky.

The modification of weather with water mist through this water spraying device has a significant impact where there has been a decrease in the value of PM's pollutant by 2.5 several points that have been operated.

The success of lowering pollutants during the ASEAN Summit prompted BNPB to continue the activity even though the event at the Southeast Asian level ended last September 7.

The request for BNPB's support for conducting the TMC is based on the results of the Advanced Coordination Meeting for the Handling of Air Pollution in the Jabodetabek area which was chaired by Coordinating Minister for Luxury Affairs on September 2, 2023.

Furthermore, BNPB through the Deputy for Emergency Handling deployed two aircraft with a spraying capacity of 1,000 1,500 liters per sort. The success of this TMC operation was carried out in the cooperation of various parties, BNPB, TNI AU, BRIN and BMKG.
