JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that Indonesians with various backgrounds can become ambassadors in fighting gambling and are not limited to public figures.
This was conveyed by Budi to clarify the news in media which stated that he supports one of the celebrities who is currently being filed as a result of promoting online gambling to become an anti-Julyonline ambassador.
"Don't cut my previous statement. I mean, both society, artists, celebrities, influencers, media crews, all of us, if possible, become anti-judicial ambassadors. I don't give support to certain figures," Budi said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 6.
Secara tegas, Budi menegaskan Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika tetap menghormati proses hukum yang berkaitan dengan artis atau selebgram lain oleh Polri.
He ensured that the Ministry of Communication and Information remained in its duties and responsibilities to close access and coordinate with across ministries and institutions in fighting gambling.
"So I said the legal process should run. That's the realm of law enforcement officials to process publicfigure and influencers who are stumbling over similar cases. This is not the domain of Kominfo," he said.

Budi said the statement in a Working Meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday (4/9) regarding the anti-Julyonline ambassador did not specifically lead to certain public figures.
"The ambassador, in the sense that let's be both people who campaign for online gambling. So anyone can get a share, you (journalists) want to be ambassadors too," said Budi.
Previously, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that artists and celebrities who were caught in online gambling promotion cases could be used as anti-Julyonline campaigners (jurkam) for the community.
He said that Indonesia is the only country in ASEAN that does not legalize gambling, because it is a transnational transverse crime.
"I don't want to be a promoter of legalization of gambling if you have an opinion, please, my friends say that, because we as a nation as a country we have to think seriously about this gambling issue because if not seven billion dollars to nine billion dollars per year we run," he said.
