JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy responded to issues related to his name entering the vice presidential market in the 2024 presidential election.

"I just want to focus on being the Coordinating Minister for PMK until it's finished," said Muhadjir when met after The Thirty Meeting of The Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 29, was confiscated by Antara.

Previously, PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan alias Zulhas, who mentioned Muhadjir's name as one of the prospective vice presidential candidates to accompany Prabowo Subianto's presidential candidate.

Responding to this, Muhadjir said that it was not only his name that was mentioned and not necessarily himself who would be nominated as a candidate for vice president.

"There is an opportunity, yes, there is, but it can be calculated how much percent of the probability rate is; right," he added.

Muhadjir said a number of parties had tried to communicate with him. However, he was reluctant to say who the parties were.

In addition, he also mentioned that he should not be directly tied to political parties because he is still bound as an administrator of PP Muhammadiyah who does not allow his management to become members of political parties.

However, Muhadjir appreciated a number of parties who proposed his name to be a vice presidential candidate. He also handed over all of these powers to the political party that proposed him.

"It's not a matter of being ready or not being ready, because it's a finished thing or not. Still an issue, right?" said Muhadjir.

To note, registration for presidential and vice-presidential candidates is scheduled for October 19 to November 25, 2023.

Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR, or obtaining 25 percent of the nationally valid votes in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament, so that pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. It is also possible that the candidate pair will be promoted by a political party or a combination of parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
