Water Mist Costs to Overcome Jakarta Air Pollution Will Be Charged to Building Owners

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta plans to install a water mist device on high-rise buildings in Jakarta, especially government-owned buildings. The cost of procuring water and water mist equipment or spraying water from the top of the building will later be borne by the building owner.

"The costs will be automatically borne by the building owner later. So once again I convey that in reducing air, the community needs an active role in how the community seeks to reduce air pollution," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency Asep Kuswanto, Monday, August 28.

Asep said, the water mist device or water spray made by the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN) is estimated at IDR 50 million per unit.

"Yesterday BRIN delivered around Rp. 50 million for one unit and it is very easy to make. Yesterday it was just tested, but later BRIN will deliver the specifications," he said.

In addition to these tools, Asep said, later the costs for the application of the tools and water will be borne by the building owner.

"The building has an automatic water source. Don't imagine that we are digging again, we are not making a new water source. This tool is very simple and inexpensive and we can multiply it in a fairly short time," explained Asep.

So far, DKI Provincial Government has not determined whether this policy will be mandatory or only in the form of an appeal.

"Maybe if it's mandatory or if it's an appeal, we'll still be discussing it, because it was just a trial run yesterday and hopefully in 2-3 days we can issue a policy," he said.

Asep explained, the tool functions to shoot water and form small droplets of water. The falling water is expected to improve air quality.

"This water mist is different from a water cannon that shoots, or also a fire extinguisher hose, that's different. The water mist ends up being a kind of water drop that is more towards fogging. Indeed, based on the need for water, not too much, like for extinguishing a fire. Very different ," Asep explained.
