The Kendari Basarnas team conducted a search for a man who drowned between the waters of Tanjung Toronipa and Labengki Island, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra).
Head of Basarnas Kendari Muhammad Arafah said the report on the disappearance of the victim was first informed by Wahid, who is the victim's family.
"On Saturday (26 August 2023) at around 18.32 WITA, we received a report from the victim's family that there had been a ship accident, namely KM Sinar Cahaya, which was loaded with three people, drowned. Based on the report, his party dispatched the Kendari Basarnas Rescue Team using a rubber boat to provide SAR assistance.
"We have dispatched the Basarnas Rescue Team with several equipment, including rescue cars, rubber boats, and other safety support equipment," said Arafah.
He said that the distance from the accident site with Kendari Basarnas Pier was about 30 nautical miles.
According to him, when he arrived at the scene, his party immediately conducted a search with a radius of 35 nautical miles.
"During the search, the weather conditions were cloudy with wind speeds of seven to 20 knots, and wave heights of about one to two meters," he said.
Arafah explained that the ship accident that resulted in the loss of one person began when KM Sinar Cahaya containing three people departed from Kendari Pier to Central Sulawesi Waters (Sulteng), on Saturday (26/8) at around 01.00 WITA.
"At around 04.00 WITA, the ship was hit by waves and drowned.
