Two Counterfeit Money Dealers In Tangerang Arrested, Other Perpetrators Still At Large

TANGERANG After receiving reports from residents regarding the circulation of counterfeit money, the Tangerang Police conducted an investigation and arrested two people with evidence.

"Two suspects were arrested by the Jatanras team, and evidence as many as 240 counterfeit rupiah notes in 100 thousand denominations with a total of 24 million," Tangerang Police Chief Kombes Sigit Dany Setiyono told reporters, Tuesday, August 22.

Sigit explained that the disclosure began with public information regarding the existence of counterfeit money transactions at a shop in the Kemiri area, Tangerang Regency.

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested two perpetrators, PN and JN, who are now suspects. PN is suspected of being the main perpetrator of the spread of counterfeit money.

From the suspect's hands, the police found a number of evidences, one of which was a conversation on WhatsApp.

"It was found that a cellphone contained WhatsApp paint. Conversations or chats related to the spread of counterfeit money," he said again.

After the development was carried out, the officers arrested JN. But unfortunately, the two perpetrators are still being searched.

"From the suspect's statement, there are two other suspects. And now he has been named as a DPO, namely the initials A and R," he said.

According to the confessions of the two suspects, they got the counterfeit money from two of their friends, whose names were already on the wanted list (DPO).

"And from the statements of the two suspects, they also admitted that it was the first time they used the counterfeit money," he said.

The perpetrators are suspected of Article 36 paragraphs (2) and (3) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency or Article 245 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) with a penalty of 10 to 15 years in prison.
