JAKARTA - The DKI Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) ensures that clean water is available to deal with El Nino which causes dry season and drought potential, whose peak is predicted in October-November 2023.

"We have prepared 67 units of tank cars, 46 units of water reservoirs, 9 units of stationary Water Processing Installation (IPA), and seven units of IPA mobile," said Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta Province Isnawa Adji as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 15.

Isnawa said that the readiness of supporting facilities and infrastructure was a collaboration between his party and PAM Jaya, the Natural Resources Service, and related agencies which were coordinated in April 2023.

He reminded the public to save on the use of clean water as needed, check the condition of the pipe installation at home if it leaks, and make arrangements for plant watering activities.

He also reminded the public to routinely check electrical installations independently, turn off electronic devices and stoves when traveling.

"Keep away flammable objects from the source of the fire, and don't burn garbage carelessly," he said.

In addition, the DKI BPBD noted that during January to July 2023 there had been a fire in buildings or settlements as many as 356 incidents.

The majority of the fires occurred due to an electrical short circuit, namely 256 incidents and 45 gas cylinders or explosions.

"The highest fires hit 778 housing units and 546 semi-permanent buildings," he said.

Responding to this, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD took the initiative to monitor and review electrical installations in lower-middle residential areas.

"This monitoring effort is to suppress the fire case, considering that most of the fires that occurred were caused by an electrical short circuit," he concluded.

The DKI BPBD will cooperate with relevant agencies starting from the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Disgulkarmat), the DKI Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Office, the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, PLN UID Jakarta Raya, to other regional officials.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the intensity of the El Nino phenomenon in Indonesia will strengthen from August to September 2023.
