Medan District Court Sentences 2 Couriers Of Methamphetamine 7.5 Years In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court (PN) sentenced two five grams of crystal methamphetamine couriers from Medan to 7.5 years in prison.

"Imposing the defendants Ari Wardana alias Towok and Agus Tulus Utama Hutagalung 7 years and 6 months, a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison," said the panel of judges chaired by Abdul Hadi Nasution as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 9.

The panel of judges in the verdict stated that the facts of the trial of the defendants Wardana alias Towok and Agus Tulus Utama Hutagalung violated Article 114 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics.

"That is, without rights or against the law offering to sell, sell, buy, accept, become intermediaries in buying and selling, exchanging, or handing over class I narcotics in the form of non-plants in the form of a package of 5 grams of net weight," said Abdul Hadi.

The panel of judges said that the aggravating thing was the actions of the two defendants for not supporting the government's program in actively eradicating drugs, while the mitigating thing was that the defendant regretted his actions and was polite during the trial.

After reading the verdict, the public prosecutor (JPU) and the defendant's legal adviser (PH) to express their thoughts or accept the verdict.

The judge's decision was four months lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Patrecia Pasaribu for eight years and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison.
