2 Supreme Court Judges Not Agreeing Ferdy Sambo Sentenced To Life In Prison

JAKARTA - Two judges of the Supreme Court (MA) have different opinions or expressed dissenting opinions regarding the verdict of the former Head of the Propam Police Division, Ferdy Sambo, from the death penalty to life.

Head of the Legal and Public Relations Bureau of Supreme Court Sobandi stated that two different member judges, namely Jupriyadi and Desnayeti.

"There are two people who dissented opinions in the case of the defendant FS, namely Jupriyadi and Desnayeti. They did a dissenting opinion," Sobandi told reporters, Tuesday, August 8.

Although the two judges expressed different opinions, not the other three judges, including Supreme Court Justice Suhadi.

"So he rejects the cassation. It means the death penalty is still there," he said.

"But the decision is to improve (to become, red) for life," continued Sobandi.

Previously, the Supreme Court Judge not only gave a discount on Ferdy Sambo's sentence in the murder case of Brigadier J. His wife's sentence, Putri Candrawathi, was also reduced from 20 years in prison to 10 years.

This decision was knocked by Supreme Court Justice Suhadi and his four members, Suharto, Jupriyadi, Desnayeti, and Yohanes Priyana. Then, a discount on the sentence period was also given to Ferdy Sambo's two subordinates, namely Ricky Rizal Wibowo and Strong Ma'ruf.

Ricky received a reduced sentence from 13 years to 8 years in prison. Meanwhile Strong was sentenced to 10 years in prison from 15 years.

The appeal was filed by the defendants in this case because they objected to the decision made by the South Jakarta District Court (PN) and was upheld by the DKI High Court (PT).
