KENDARI - Class IIA Kendari Correctional Institution (Lapas) officers thwarted the smuggling of 28.52 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a rice box that was entrusted to a resident of Kendari Prison, Southeast Sulawesi.

Head of Class IIA Kendari Prison Tapianus Antonio Barus said the methamphetamine smuggling was carried out by the guard on Monday (7/8) at around 16.30 WITA.

"We thwarted the alleged smuggling of methamphetamine that was intended to be excluded by Tamping (the detention of a companion who is a prisoner in charge of assisting employees in terms of coaching activities in the fields of work activities, education, religion, sports, arts, environmental cleanliness, and industrial activities)," Antonio said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 8.

He revealed that the smuggling of methamphetamine was successfully thwarted thanks to the cooperation of Kendari Class IIA prison officers who were solid and synergized with each other.

The case has been handed over to the Kendari City Police Narcotics Unit (Sat Resnarkoba) to conduct an investigation related to the 28.52 gram methamphetamine.

"We have submitted it to the Kendari Police Narcotics Unit to investigate it. Later they will develop it," said Antonio.

The evidence of methamphetamine was found in the rice box as many as five sachets that were about to be delivered into the Kendari Prison by Tamping who served in the Kendari Class II A prison yard.

Antonio said that the Tamping inmates who delivered the rice box containing the methamphetamine had also now been secured in the Kendari Class IIA prison cell block.

"Yesterday we immediately handed it over to the Police, but the Police left it in Kendari Prison," said Antonio.
