JAKARTA - The Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) plans to provide assistance to students who will carry out an internship program. This assistance will be provided for three semesters and will use the 2020 State Budget budget.

Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim said the apprenticeship fund was intended for underprivileged students.

"Yesterday we also heard many issues that students are very happy with the 3 semesters outside the study program. But they are very afraid that there may not be funding for those with lower socio-economic levels," he said, during a working meeting with Commission X, at the DPR Building, Complex. Parliament, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, February 20.

However, Nadiem admitted that he had not thought about how it would be like with this apprenticeship funding assistance. Even so, the mechanism depends on the university, because the cooperation may differ.

"We have to consult with universities, at least we have to determine the budget first. Later we will put forward the scheme together," he said.

Nadiem said the budget for this assistance fund would not shift other posts. This is because higher education has a special budget to help with semester fees for students.

"We hear a lot of requests, whether there are universities that can be assisted for students who do not have the funds to transport there, go to the village, they have to fly there, etc. If apprenticeship at companies is easier, there is money. transport and others. For example, projects in villages sometimes need funding. So we prepare a little there, "he explained.

On the other hand, Nadiem emphasized, this assistance fund would not be given directly to students. But it will be submitted to the university where they received their education.

"No, it's not like that later. It depends on the university's total cost. 2020 budget," he said.
