JAYAPURA - A number of areas in Jayapura City have reportedly experienced flooding due to overflowing water from the ditch after raining since the afternoon.

Head of BPBD Jayapura City Asep Khalid said a number of areas were starting to be hit by floods, such as in the Papua Trade Center and CV Thomas areas in Entrop, South Jayapura District, also around Yapis Dok V, Sam Ratulangi Street in North Jayapura District and Youtefa market, Abepura District.

Floods that occurred due to overflows from drainage or sewers that were unable to accommodate water until it overflowed onto the road.

"We are still monitoring because in some locations the water has receded," Asep said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 20.

Marthen, one of the residents in the CV Thomas Entrop area, South Jayapura District, said that the CV Thomas area was prone to flooding during heavy rains.

Heavy rains that hit Jayapura City and its surroundings did cause flooding due to clogged sewers.

"Hopefully the rain will subside quickly so that the flood will recede soon," saidMarthen.
