PAPUA - A Smart Air aircraft coded PK-SNO carrying seven Damai Cartenz personnel was shot by an armed criminal group (KKB) when it was about to land at Homeyo Airport, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua.
Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri admitted that there was a shooting incident by the KKB against a plane belonging to Smart Air carrying seven personnel.
"From the reports received, six shots were heard. Thank God the plane managed to land and the plane flew back to Nabire after deploying seven personnel from the Cartenz Peace Task Force," Fakhiri told Antara, Tuesday, July 18.
With the presence of members of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, he said, it is hoped that it will strengthen the Homeyo Police, which was attacked last Sunday and fired upon by the KKB.
In addition to attacking and shooting at the Homeyo Police, he said, KKB members also stole a police organic firearm.
"We hope that the community will help and hand back the firearms so that they are not misused," he said when contacted from Jayapura.
